Body Waxing & Brazilian Waxing Frequently asked questions.

Q. When should I come back? A. The average recommendation is every 4 weeks for facial hair and 6 weeks for body hair, this will vary depending on hair type.
Q. How long should the hair be? A. Your hair needs to be at least 5mm long to allow the wax to grip onto the hair. Length required varies due to type of hair, thickness, body area, growth cycle of the hair, etc.
Q. Is it going to hurt? A. Depending on your own pain threshold, usually a slight sting like a band aid being ripped off occurs although this does get better as each wax is performed. We use Caron hard wax from Australia for bikini wax and Brazilian wax as it is specifically formulated to not stick to the skin.
Q. Will my therapist be Male of female A. Not that it matters, as all of our therapists are professional therapists, but the majority of times your therapist will be male. All waxing currently is performed by our Australian owner with over 20 years experience.
Q. Am I allowed to wear make-up or apply facial/body products after my treatment? A. It is recommended not to apply any make-up or unfamiliar facial or body products to the area after being waxed especially perfumed lotions or creams. Wait at least 8 hours.
Q. Am I going to be sore or sensitive on the skin after my waxing treatment? A. For first time waxers you may feel your skin is a little sensitive the day after this usually subsides within a 24 hour period. Some people may experience a lymphatic reaction, small lumps on the skin. This is usually on large areas such as chest and stomach or back. But is fairly rare.
Q. Should I use a moisturiser after waxing? A. After the first initial 8 hours of your treatment you may apply a soothing moisturiser which is based on vitamin E, witchhazel, or Tea Tree Oil. We will apply a soothing antibacterial oil after your waxing.
Q. Do I need to do anything in between my treatments? A. Besides moisturising, performing an exfoliation twice a week will help with cellular renewal but also remove any dead skin cells or clogging on the surface of the skin to relieve any ingrown hairs. If you notice there isn't any ingrown hairs over the area to be treated an exfoliation is still beneficial for the skin & body twice a week. Ensure you moisturise after each exfoliation.
Q. What if I shave in between treatments to help prolong the time in between? A. Shaving not only promotes the hair to grow but it also thickens the shaft of the hair so upon returning for your waxing treatment you may feel it is just as uncomfortable as the first time you waxed. Shaving also stimulates the skin creating the skin to dry out & become itchy & annoying. Waxing creates a smoother finish without any shaving nicks or cuts.
Q. Can I go swimming directly after my waxing treatment? A. It is advisable that you don't go swimming for at least 8 hours after your treatment also extremely hot showers, saunas & spas should be avoided during this time.
Q. What are the benefits of waxing? A. The benefit of waxing is when the hair is removed, the root of the hair is removed with it. As time goes on the root of the hair becomes weaker & decides it can't grow back anymore hence allowing the hair to become refined & softer.
Q. Can I play sports after my waxing treatment/s? A. As the hair follicle is open & stressed keeping the area clean is important. Perspiring may allow the sweat to be absorbed into the follicle which may cause an infection called folliculitis. To avoid this happening do not participate in any exercise which will cause perspiration.
Q.Will I have any skin reactions after or during my treatment? A. After your treatment you may find the area red & spotty or just spotty. Depending on the area to be waxed you may find you get little raised bumps which can sometimes be itchy due to the flow of the lymphatic system acting as an antihistamine. It is rare and usually on areas such as chest and stomach.
Q. What type of clothing needs to be worn after waxing? A. For the first initial 24 – 48 hours avoid wearing tight fitting clothes & also clothes produced from synthetic fibers such as nylon & lycra. These materials irritate & stimulate the skin and cause a rash & can be discomforting to you.
Q. Can I wax over moles/raised bumps? A. Depending on the type of mole & how much it is raised. The treatment can be performed but it is up to the therapist to take note of any skin tags which may be irritated throughout the treatment. Otherwise these areas can be avoided & an alternative technique may be used such as tweezing.
Q. Can I have waxing performed when I'm pregnant? A. Yes it is safe to have waxing performed while your pregnant although depending on whether it is your first time or not your pain threshold may be sensitive creating discomfort.
Q. Can I have waxing when I am Sun burnt? A. No, this is adding more heat into the area but also when waxing is performed it does remove the top layer of dead skin cells so you don't want to be removing this skin which is already under stress.
Q. Is there an age barrier that is recommended to start waxing? A. Usually around the 18 Year old stage is the best time & can be performed on any age thereafter as long as the skin isn't extremely fragile or thin.
Q. Will waxing get rid of my pimples? A. No, once again depending on the person. You may be going through a hormonal stage which comes from internal sources or you may have a more oily skin which gets clogged. Waxing is not a treatment for pimples.

Q. When should I not get waxed? A. Waxing when you have the flu or when your not feeling well can increase the chance of having a low pain threshold. Also 2 – 4 days either side of your menstrual cycle may have an effect on your pain threshold.
Q. Can waxing reduce my hair growth? A. When waxing is performed on a regular basis & the hair has been removed by the root, over time this becomes weaker & starts to grow finer & more sparse. You may find you need to have between 4 – 8 treatments before you start to notice the change in hair growth.
Q. Can I have any other treatments before or after my waxing treatment? A. It is advisable when you have your waxing appointment that you do not participate in any other treatments such as massage, body scrubs & wraps or spray tanning directly after your treatment. You may have waxing performed after other services which include massage, pedicures, manicures, facials & body treatments. Although this said, it is advisable to leave your more relaxing treatments to another day.
